Why visit Kathmandu?

September 15 to December 15 and mid-March to mid-June are the best times to visit. Three days in Kathmandu are the perfect amount of time. During these seasons, thousands of tourists visit Kathmandu. The winter months are cold in the high mountains, but the temperatures in Kathmandu are cold yet comfortable, allowing for hiking. From mid-June to mid-September, rain falls in different places in the country, but it is still possible to travel to Kathmandu.

1. WALK AROUND THAMEL, THE HEART OF KATHMANDU

The Thamel area, the tourist district of the city, will provide you with several hours of exercise. Explore the narrow streets and be impressed by the many shops offering a huge selection of souvenirs, clothes, jewelry, bags, and basically anything you want to buy. Aside from the impressive selection of stores, Thamel is also known for its beautiful culinary offerings.

2. VISIT WORLD HERITAGE SITES

The Old Royal Palaces Square (Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Patan) is a large and impressive courtyard of ancient and magnificent historic buildings. In the square are over fifty temples, palaces, and prayer buildings from the 12th to 18th centuries. The two-thousand-year-old Swayambhunath Stupa, built on a hill picturing the Kathmandu Valley, provides passers-by with an exciting cultural experience. Additionally, the very important and sacred Hindu temple in Nepal, dedicated to the god Shiva, is known by the locals as “cremation” (Pashupatinath).
