Hike Overview

The Kakani Suryachaur hike is considered one of the best hikes around the Kathmandu Valley. The journey commences from Kakani, Nuwakot, leading to Muhan Pokhari via Suryachaur. To reach Kakani, we embark on a 25-kilometer northwest drive from Bhrikuti Mandap, which typically takes around an hour and a half.

Hike Information:

Hike Duration: 7-8 hours

Max Elevation: 2,030m

The hike initiates by traversing through Kakani village and the scout center, guiding participants through a dense forest. Approximately three hours into the hike, we reach Suryachaur, an open area situated at an altitude of 1970 meters. Suryachaur serves as a hill station offering panoramic views of the Langtang Himalayan Range and the entire Likhu Valley of Nuwakot District in the Bagmati Province of central Nepal. It provides an excellent vantage point to witness the mountainous chain, including Mt. Manaslu (8153 meters), Ganesh Himal, Mt. Langtang Lirung, Mt. Dorje Lhakpa, and the sacred Gaurishankar.

Following a pause to appreciate the breathtaking scenery and take a break, the hike descends to Muhan Pokhari within the Shivapuri National Park. Upon reaching the Shivapuri National Park gate, we drive back to Kathmandu, concluding the memorable trek.
